Series background & context

Hope Landing is Edie James's small-town romantic suspense home base. The series follows Knight Tactical Protection, a team of former SEALs and other military operators who have landed in a mountain town that looks peaceful from the outside and rarely stays that way for long.

In book after book, the pattern is part comfort, part tension. Someone in or around town is being hunted, framed, stalked, blackmailed, or dragged back into an old mess, and Knight Tactical steps in. That setup lets James mix protective detail, investigation, and clean romance without losing the local feeling. Hope Landing is full of cabins, cafes, family ties, church connections, and the kind of town gossip that can help or hurt, depending on the day.

These books are built around the team. Hard Landing starts with Jack Reese and Kelli Spencer getting a second chance while a stalker turns deadly. Later books move through the rest of the crew, including Austin Daggett, Ethan Hernandez, Patrick Olivetti, Christian Murphy, Dale Bonham, Seely Acosta, and Chase Reese. Each novel has its own couple and case, but the fun of the series is watching the wider Knight Tactical family change around them.

The tone is brisk, tense, and warm at the same time.

James leans hard into the push and pull between danger and belonging. Her heroes know how to handle surveillance, protection details, weapons, and strategy, but many of them are much less comfortable with forgiveness, vulnerability, and the idea of staying put. The heroines are not bystanders. They are pilots, cafe owners, coders, scientists, investigators, and women with strong opinions, useful skills, and a reason not to trust easily.

Faith matters here, but it does not crowd out the suspense. It comes through in prayer, conscience, second chances, and the question of whether damaged people can still build a good life. If you like romantic suspense with recurring characters, a loyal team, and a strong sense of place, Hope Landing is an easy series to sink into. Start at Hard Landing if you want the full team arc, then follow the books in order as the town's secrets keep opening up.
