The Holy Terrors mysteries pair two people who sound as if they should not work together and then make the partnership the whole point. Alistair Kincaid is a young bishop with a serious streak and a real sense of duty. Diana Hunt is an actress with nerves, style, and a gift for dramatic timing. The series sits in a nice spot between cozy mystery, light horror, and paranormal puzzle. Green keeps the atmosphere spooky without letting the books become oppressive, and he leaves room for both skepticism and genuine unease. Sometimes the apparent haunting has a human answer. Sometimes the human answer is only part of the trouble. Either way, the pleasure is in watching this unlikely pair sort it out.

If you want Green's wit in a shorter, more mystery-driven form, these books are easy to settle into. They have old dark buildings, rumors of curses, suspicious guests, and a duo whose relationship keeps getting more engaging as the series goes on.
