Author bio

Holly Chamberlin grew up in New York City, moving between boroughs and bookstores, and eventually traded skyscrapers for the rocky coastline of Maine. Today she is known for warm, character driven novels that follow families and friends through summers, holidays, and turning points.

She studied English literature at New York University, earning both undergraduate and graduate degrees. After college she spent about a decade working as an editor at several New York publishing houses and a book packaging firm, acquiring and shaping commercial fiction for adult and young adult readers.

Those years behind the desk gave her a sharp eye for pacing, structure, and the details that make fictional people feel real.

In 1996 she moved to Boston, married, and shifted into freelance work. She ghostwrote and edited books on an eclectic mix of subjects, from health and wellness to teen series fiction, while reviewing manuscripts for other writers. Somewhere in the middle of those projects she realised she wanted to tell her own stories instead of polishing everyone else's.

The result was her first novel, Living Single, published in 2002. Set in Boston, it follows thirty-something Erin Weston and her circle of friends as they navigate careers, relationships, and the pressure to have life figured out on a timetable. Early novels like The Summer of Us, Babyland, and Back in the Game stayed close to big-city settings and focused on smart, sometimes messy women figuring out what they really want.

Over time, Chamberlin's fiction drifted north, toward the beaches and small towns of coastal Maine where she now lives. Her Yorktide, Maine novels, including The Family Beach House, Last Summer, The Beach Quilt, and All Our Summers, explore multigenerational families, grief, and the complicated comfort of coming home. In the Eliot's Corner books, Barefoot in the Sand and A Summer Love Affair, she zeroes in on late-in-life reunions, long-kept secrets, and the fragile trust between parents and adult children.

Standalone stories such as Tuscan Holiday, Summer Friends, The Summer Nanny, and Summer Roommates widen the lens to friendships, found families, and the different ways women reinvent themselves at twenty, forty, or seventy. Readers often come for the sea-glass settings and stay for her interest in bullying, class divides, adoption, and the quiet ways love is tested over time.

Chamberlin lives in a restored nineteenth century brick townhouse in Portland, Maine, with her husband, Stephen, and a much doted-on cat named Betty. Away from the desk she reads widely, from contemporary women's fiction to darker Gothic novels, and walks the beach in all kinds of weather, paying attention to the small textures that later find their way onto the page.

Across more than fifteen novels, she returns again and again to a simple idea: that even after loss or disappointment, it is still possible to build a life that feels like home.
