Series background & context

The Highland Lairds books are built for readers who want fast-moving Scottish romance with battles at the edges and a strong rescue plot at the center. The setting is the Scottish war for independence, so danger is never far away, but these stories stay focused on the people trying to make a life in the middle of it.

So far the series follows lairds and warriors from the Sinclair family circle. In The Laird's Prize, a rebel Scot carries off an English bride in the middle of a violent clash and discovers she is far more complicated than a prize of war. The Laird's Kiss turns into a cross-border rescue, with a feisty heroine and a hero who cannot resist a dangerous mission. The Laird's Guardian Angel brings the fight even closer to home when a wounded laird meets a woman fleeing with information that could change everything.

It is a very direct, very readable formula.

Knight keeps the appeal grounded in motion. People are on horseback, escaping castles, dodging enemies, or trying to move vital news before someone else gets there first. The men are protective, but not idle. The women usually arrive with a real problem to solve, not just a role to fill in the romance. That balance gives the books a good push, because the couple always has something practical to do besides fall in love.

If you like Highland romance that leans adventurous without losing the emotional payoff, this series is an easy fit. Read it for border crossings, rescue missions, proud lairds, and heroines who refuse to sit quietly while history tramples over them.
