Series background & context
Hellgate Guardians mixes paranormal romance, demon politics, and a lot of snark. The series opens with Delta Gates, a broke young woman who takes an absurdly well-paid security job and learns too late that the cemetery she is guarding contains a literal gate to Hell. Her new bosses are demons. The job is real. The hazard pay suddenly makes sense.
The first two books, Grave Mistakes and Grave Consequences, stay close to Delta as she gets dragged into a world of guardians, rings of Hell, strange new powers, and very dangerous attraction. Delta thinks she is one thing, then keeps discovering she is very much not. A lot of the early fun comes from watching her react to the truth with equal parts panic, sarcasm, and stubbornness.
Then the series widens.
Grave Decisions and Grave Signs pull in Medley and Sable, the sisters tied to the same larger mystery. That shift matters, because Hellgate Guardians is not really four separate monster romances. It is one connected story about hidden bloodlines, family secrets, and women who learn they are central to the balance between realms. Each heroine gets her own emotional baggage, her own romance, and her own piece of the supernatural puzzle.
The gates need guarding, whether anyone feels ready or not.
Across the series, the stakes keep rising from local weirdness to full realm-level danger. There are trips into Hell, power struggles among demons, old enemies hunting the sisters, and a larger villain pushing toward control. The books also deal with darker material, especially around captivity, trauma, and identity, so the comedy never means the world is safe. It just means the characters keep talking back to it.
What makes the series work is the mix. It has the fast, dirty, bantering energy many readers want from paranormal romance, but there is a real ongoing plot underneath it. The relationships build alongside the mythology instead of replacing it. If you like demons, found family, and heroines who discover they are much more powerful than they were told, this is the draw.
Read these in order. Delta’s story lays the groundwork, and Medley and Sable’s books hit much harder once you know the rules of the world and the family at the center of it.
