Nat begins in New Vegas, a half-glamorous, half-desperate city trapped in ice, where she works as a blackjack dealer and hides dangerous secrets. Wes is a runner, a quick-talking survivor with a crew, a past, and just enough nerve to make terrible ideas sound workable. Their paths cross because both are chasing escape, or something close to it. Rumors of a better place called the Blue pull them forward, but the trip becomes much more than a search for paradise.

What links the books is the steady reveal that the broken world has a deeper history than it first seems. Nat's powers matter. So does Wes's family. Dragons, ancient magic, shifting kingdoms, stolen identities, and political control all become part of the larger arc. Even when the setting expands, the series keeps a grounded emotional center in the bond between Nat and Wes, who have to decide again and again whether love is a strength or a liability.

The tone is high stakes but not joyless. There are chases, betrayals, lost cities, and monsters, but also banter, loyalty, and moments where the series clearly enjoys its own wild world-building.
