Series background & context
The Hayley Chill Thriller series follows Hayley Chill, a former Army soldier whose intelligence, discipline, and refusal to look away make her an unlikely fit for ordinary Washington life. The first book, Deep State, begins when she takes an internship at the White House and finds herself caught in the fallout from the death of the president’s chief of staff. What looks like a workplace tragedy quickly becomes a threat reaching far beyond one office.
Hayley is not a polished political insider. She has military training, a sharp eye for detail, and a practical way of dealing with danger. Those qualities make her useful to a covert network working to protect the country from threats inside and outside the government. They also make her a target for people with power, secrets, and very little patience for questions.
Washington, DC, is the series' starting point and its pressure cooker. The books move through the White House, intelligence circles, military institutions, and the back channels where public decisions can hide private motives. Hauty uses the machinery of government as the setting for fast-moving conspiracies, but Hayley’s personal history gives the stories another layer, especially her need to understand the truth about her father’s death.
Nothing stays safely in the briefing room.
In Savage Road, Hayley investigates cyberattacks with the potential to push nations toward war. The novella Insurrection Day puts her in the middle of a violent uprising at the Capitol, where she must get a senator and staff members to safety while pursuing a dangerous lead. Storm Rising brings her back to Texas and deeper into family secrets, extremist networks, and a plot that could fracture the country.
The fourth full novel, The Devil You Know, shifts the action to Maui after a Supreme Court justice is murdered. Hayley works with a deputy US marshal as a hostage crisis puts children in danger and exposes a wider conspiracy. The locations change, but the pattern holds: Hayley is handed incomplete information, pressured by powerful people, and forced to decide whom she can trust before events turn deadly.
These are high-stakes political thrillers with a strong action focus. Readers can expect secret operations, assassination plots, international tension, and investigations that connect current danger to old wounds. Hayley is exceptionally capable, but the series does not treat her job as easy. Every success brings another question about the people directing her and the cost of staying loyal to an ideal.
Start with Deep State. It introduces Hayley, the Washington world around her, and the relationships that shape the books that follow. Insurrection Day is a shorter companion story best read after Savage Road, before continuing with Storm Rising.
