Series background & context

Hawaiian Reunions is Anna J. Stewart's island-set contemporary romance series, centered on the fictional community of Nalani, Hawai'i. The books share a strong sense of place, a close local network, and the idea of ohana, family formed through blood, friendship, responsibility, and care. Each romance stands on its own, while the town and the tour company Ohana Odysseys provide familiar touchpoints.

The series begins with Her Island Homecoming. Pilot Sydney Calvert returns to Nalani after her brother's death and discovers that he has left her his tour company. She planned to return to her own dreams elsewhere, not become responsible for a business and the community that depends on it. Accountant Theo Fairfax arrives to evaluate the company as a possible investment or purchase, making Sydney's decision even harder.

Nalani changes both of them.

In Their Surprise Island Wedding, work-focused Marella Benoit arrives for her sister's destination wedding without a plus-one. Surfer Keane Harper becomes an unexpected guide to the island and eventually her pretend boyfriend. Their story keeps the sunny setting while showing how much pressure can sit behind a supposedly perfect wedding.

The series treats Hawai'i as more than a postcard backdrop. Ocean activities, local food, island weather, and tourism all shape the characters' decisions. The community is closely connected, which means a business problem or family crisis is rarely one person's concern for long. Stewart balances the vacation atmosphere with people deciding whether they are willing to make a real home there.

These are wholesome, low-angst romances with emotional weight. Grief, career uncertainty, family expectations, and the fear of changing course all appear, but the stories make room for fun, local color, and the relief of finding people who want you to stay.

Start with Her Island Homecoming. It introduces Nalani, Ohana Odysseys, and the people who recur through the later books. Readers who like warm destinations, opposites-attract couples, family businesses, and a strong community thread will find an easy place to settle in here.
