Series background & context

Heather Graham's Harrison Investigations books follow cases in which the dead may be trying to reach the living. Paranormal investigators encounter haunted homes, unexplained sightings, and crimes whose clues connect to earlier violence. Each story combines a mystery with a central romantic relationship, giving its characters two questions to answer: what is happening around them, and whether they can trust the person helping them face it. The investigations share a supernatural framework while moving between different places and couples.

A haunting can be a warning about someone who is still alive.

Haunted begins at Melody House, a historic Virginia estate dating to the Revolutionary War. Owner Matt Stone doesn't believe in ghosts, but the strange events in his home lead him to allow Harrison Investigations to examine it. Investigator Darcy Tremayne finds more than an old legend. The case places her in danger while drawing her toward Matt, whose skepticism makes their work together uneasy. The setting carries layers of earlier history into a present-day investigation, so learning what happened before may help explain why someone is threatened now.

In Ghost Walk, Nikki DuMonde manages a New Orleans haunted-tour company. An employee appears beside her bed asking for help, then Nikki learns that the woman was murdered at the time of the visit. Her experience is difficult to explain to people who didn't witness it. Investigator Brent Blackhawk can communicate with the dead and recognizes that Nikki may also need to listen. His own tragic past affects their developing relationship, while messages from another slain person widen the danger beyond the first death.

The Vision puts an unexplained encounter under water. Genevieve Wallace sees what appears to be a dead woman during a salvage operation, but her diving partner Thor Thompson doesn't believe her. When a body is later discovered, Genevieve is certain it isn't the woman she saw. The distinction matters: treating one victim as the answer could obscure another and leave a killer free to act. The underwater setting adds isolation and uncertainty to a mystery that already demands taking an unlikely witness seriously.

The tone is paranormal romantic suspense. Ghosts and visions make the atmosphere unsettling, but the characters still have practical work to do: question assumptions, connect evidence, and recognize a threat before it reaches them. Historic houses, tourist stories, and salvage discoveries give each case a different route into the past. The books introduce new principal characters rather than keeping one couple at the center throughout, while the shared investigation network connects their experiences. Readers can follow the sequence from Haunted to see how Graham develops that recurring approach to the living and the dead.
