Guardians of Dawn Books in Order

The Guardians of Dawn series is a young adult fantasy set in the Morning Realms, a land where magic is forbidden and people with magical gifts are blamed for past disasters. Old legends say that when the balance between order and chaos breaks down, elemental warriors called the Guardians of Dawn will return. The books follow the young women caught up in that prophecy.

The series starts with Zhara. Jin Zhara lives under the harsh control of her stepmother while caring for her blind younger sister and trying to hide her own fire magic. When rumors of monsters prove to be more than rumors, Zhara meets allies connected to the secretive Guardians of Dawn. She learns that magic is being corrupted, and that she may have a much larger role in the fate of the Realms.

The world is already coming apart.

Each book widens the map and gives another future Guardian a chance to step forward. In Ami, Li Ami has been sent far from home to care for her father, whose troubling warnings may point to a real danger. Her connection to plants and magic makes her central to a growing threat involving blight, undead creatures, and a demon portal. Zhara’s fight becomes a shared responsibility.

Yuli moves into political territory with Princess Yulana, a sharp-minded young woman facing a succession crisis, civil war, hungry ghosts, and a former friend who has become a rival. As the Guardian of Wind, Yuli must handle the Grand Game and the demands of leadership while the larger magical crisis keeps spreading. Personal loyalties matter here just as much as formal power.

The final planned installment, Suhwa, follows Min Suhwa, who has grown up sheltered in an isolated convent and kept her unusual illusion magic hidden. When danger finds her, the other Guardians must travel toward the Azure Isles in search of the Guardian of Water. By this point, the series has become a fight on several fronts, against forces seeking political control and an escalating demonic threat.

These books combine elemental magic, folklore-inspired fantasy, romance, friendship, and high-stakes adventure. The tone has room for humor and tenderness, even when the characters are dealing with monsters, persecution, and war. Start with Zhara, then continue in publication order, because each novel builds on the growing group of Guardians and the consequences of the earlier books.
