Series background & context
Great Falls Academy sits in the same world as Power of Five, and it works best if you think of it as a high-pressure side arc that turns into a full story of its own. The cast centers on Lera and her fae quint again, River, Coal, Tye, and Shade, but the setup changes fast. Instead of staying in fae territory, the series pushes them into the mortal world and into a human military academy where almost everything can go wrong.
And almost everything does.
The core problem is clever and cruel at the same time. Lera and her warriors go undercover at Great Falls as part of a mission tied to the growing magical threat in the mortal realm. Then an accident scrambles the males' disguises and memories, leaving Lera stranded beside the very people she loves while they no longer remember who she is or what they are to each other. She knows the mission. She knows the danger. She also has to survive classes, rules, dorm politics, and officers who now see her as nothing more than a difficult cadet.
That split gives the series its real hook. Great Falls is a strict academy with training drills, punishments, exams, athletic prestige, ceremonies, and social hierarchies, but Lera is playing a much larger game inside it. She has to keep the academy from collapsing into magical disaster, hunt the dark creatures slipping into the human world, and find a way to bring her males back to themselves without blowing her cover. So the books are not just romance or just school drama. They are built around hidden identity, broken bonds, and a countdown problem that keeps getting worse.
Another nice feature is the structure. The original Great Falls story was released in shorter episodes, and you can feel that in the pacing. Each installment gives you a specific conflict, often with one male pushed into sharper focus, while also building toward the larger arc. That makes the series feel a little like a season of television. There is a continuing mission, but each stop in the story has its own emotional center.
The tone is tense, romantic, and a little relentless by design.
If you are wondering what to expect, think academy fantasy with an undercover mission threaded through it, plus the ache of characters who are emotionally linked even when memory and circumstance keep tearing them apart. Lera spends a lot of this series holding more knowledge than anyone around her, which makes every classroom humiliation, romantic setback, and magical attack hit harder. Great Falls Academy is for readers who enjoy structured settings, mounting pressure, and stories where saving the world starts with surviving the school day.
