Series background & context
Graveyard Guardians shifts Jennifer Malone Wright's work into adult paranormal romance with a darker, soul-bound setup. The series centers on Keepers, families charged with guarding the souls of the recently dead. Their enemies are Reapers, beings who feed on souls and have been at war with the Keepers for generations.
The Estmond family is at the center of that war. In Keeper vs. Reaper, Lucy Mae Estmond inherits the family business after her father's death and steps deeper into the role she has been raised to accept. Protecting souls is already dangerous work, but Lucy's life becomes even messier when she discovers an old prophecy about the Chosen One, the person meant to end the Reaper threat.
Naturally, the Chosen One is her.
The first book also introduces Jack Walker, a Reaper sent to kill the person named by the prophecy. The problem is that Jack and Lucy feel an immediate pull toward each other, and that attraction cuts across everything they are supposed to believe. Keepers and Reapers are enemies by nature, by history, and by blood. Wright uses that conflict to build a series where romance and war are tangled from the start.
The later books broaden the focus across the Estmond family and the town of Summer Hollow. Hannah faces both Reaper trouble and the return of Detective David Foster, the man who broke her heart years earlier. Olivia prepares to fight before the Reapers can destroy her family. Daniel, Greg, Steph, and other Estmonds each get pulled into their own mix of grief, duty, danger, and reluctant romance. Even when the spotlight moves, the family business keeps tying everyone together, and every new romance has to survive that old war.
The series also uses the graveyard setting well. This is not just scenery. Graveyards are work sites, borders, and battlegrounds. The Keepers are not ghost hunters playing at the supernatural, they are the last line between vulnerable souls and creatures that would devour them. That gives every relationship a built-in pressure: love matters, but so does getting through the night with the souls intact.
Expect a paranormal romance series with family loyalty, prophecy, old grudges, and plenty of heat. The tone is darker and more adult than Wright's young adult vampire books, but it still has her familiar interest in people who inherit a dangerous role and then have to decide how much of themselves they are willing to risk for it.
