Author bio
Graham Brown grew up in Illinois, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania, moving often with his family. That early movement gave him a lasting interest in new places, and it shows in novels that jump from rain forests and deserts to research ships and remote islands.
His route to fiction was not a straight line. Brown worked as a pilot and an attorney, and later helped build a start-up health care firm before deciding to try another career: writing thrillers.
He has said he was drawn to the work of Clive Cussler, Michael Crichton, and Stephen King, as well as shows such as The X-Files and Lost. You can see the mix in his books, which often begin with a strange scientific clue, an old mystery, or an apparent disaster, then widen into a race against people with dangerous plans.
Brown's first novel, Black Rain, arrived in January 2010. It introduced Danielle Laidlaw, an operative sent into the Amazon in search of a Mayan secret with the potential to change the world. Black Sun followed Danielle, Hawker, and their allies as they tracked powerful artifacts connected to a looming Mayan prophecy. In The Eden Prophecy, the team faces assassinations, a deadly virus, and a mystery that links ancient belief with modern science.
The stories move quickly, but the science and history are part of the fun.
Brown later began writing the NUMA Files with Clive Cussler. These books center on Kurt Austin, Joe Zavala, and the National Underwater and Marine Agency's Special Assignments Team. Their cases tend to start at sea, with a vanished vessel, a strange discovery, or a failed rescue, and then head toward a problem much bigger than anyone first expects. Their collaboration on The Storm reached number one on the New York Times bestseller list.
His NUMA work includes Devil's Gate, Zero Hour, Ghost Ship, Nighthawk, Sea of Greed, Journey of the Pharaohs, and Fast Ice. After Cussler's death, Brown continued the series with books including Clive Cussler's Dark Vector, Clive Cussler Condor's Fury, and Clive Cussler Desolation Code. These are team adventures, built around practical problem-solving, underwater action, new technology, and threats that cross borders.
Brown has also written outside his best-known thriller worlds. Shadows of the Midnight Sun heads into supernatural territory, while The Gods of War imagines a future in which a struggling Earth and a terraformed Mars become the center of a brutal political fight.
Across all of it, Brown likes capable people pushed into unfamiliar, high-pressure situations. There are ancient artifacts, experimental science, storms, conspiracies, and plenty of impossible deadlines. He remains a pilot and an attorney, and his books keep finding ways to put people, machines, and big ideas under strain.
