Goldie Vance is a sunny mystery series with a great setup: sixteen-year-old Marigold, better known as Goldie, lives and works at the Crossed Palms Resort in Florida, where her father manages the hotel and where she would very much like to become the in-house detective. Officially, she is a valet. In practice, she is already solving cases whenever the adults let her get close enough.

That hotel setting does a lot of work for the series. Guests come and go. Staff members know more than they say. People are always losing something, hiding something, or pretending to be someone they are not. Goldie has access to all of it because she is curious, quick on her feet, and just underestimated enough to slip into places other people overlook. Walter, the hotel's actual detective, becomes a grudging mentor of sorts, while her best friend Cheryl helps ground the stories with plenty of brains and a very different personality.

The early mysteries start with classic detective-story pleasures, like a missing necklace, but they do not stay small for long. Goldie soon gets pulled into cases involving spies, astronauts, sabotage, and much more. One of the nice things about the series is that each mystery has its own flavor. Sometimes the fun comes from a chain of clues. Sometimes it comes from the setting, like a race, a festival, or a trip out of town. The stories are playful, but Goldie still has to earn her answers.

The world has a retro feel that gives it extra charm without making it stiff. The resort, the cars, the wardrobes, and the whole vacation atmosphere make the books feel bright and stylish, but the cast is what really sells it. Goldie is smart and bold without being perfect. Cheryl is not just the sidekick who asks obvious questions. Diane, Sugar Maple, and the larger supporting cast all bring a different texture to the series, which helps the world feel bigger than a single mystery machine.

There is also a warm openness to these books that makes them especially easy to recommend. Goldie's relationships matter. Friendship matters. Ambition matters. The series can be breezy and funny, but it never treats Goldie's goals like a joke. She wants to be taken seriously, and part of the fun is watching her keep proving that she should be.

If you like mysteries that move fast without getting too dark, this is a very comfortable place to start. Expect clever clues, colorful suspects, strong friendships, and a heroine who is always ready to chase the next lead. The series began in comic issues and later expanded into longer graphic novels, but the heart of it stays the same: Goldie wants the case, and she is probably already halfway to solving it.
