Series background & context

The Girl Undercover series follows Gabi Longoria, an LAPD detective who gets pulled into a sprawling conspiracy involving powerful people, dangerous science, and men who are willing to kill to keep control. Gabi is smart and determined, but the job becomes much more personal than a normal investigation.

She cannot simply walk away from this one.

The series starts with Girl Undercover, which introduces Gabi and the threats that will follow her through the later books. The story originally appeared in serialized form, and the novels build it into a larger conspiracy thriller. Gabi's cases involve abducted people, false identities, hidden agendas, and an organization with plans that reach well beyond a single crime scene.

In Denial and The Truth, Gabi gets closer to the people behind the plot while the danger around her grows. The series blends police work with undercover pressure, making Gabi rely on nerve as much as evidence. Her ability to keep a secret can protect her, but it can also leave her isolated when she needs help.

Showdown brings the four-book arc to a head. Gabi has begun dating Jonah, a psychopath, to get near his father Otto Stenger, the leader of a conspiracy seeking to replace ordinary people with superhumans. When Jonah becomes more unstable, Gabi's cover and safety are both at risk.

These are high-stakes conspiracy thrillers rather than traditional case-of-the-week mysteries. The action moves from detective work to infiltration, betrayal, and efforts to stop an organized threat. Gabi is the steady center, even when the people around her are lying or the official route is no longer enough.

The series connects to the Meta-Human books, which continue Gabi's world in her work as an FBI special agent. Reading Girl Undercover first gives the clearest introduction to her earlier life and the conspiracy that changes her future.

Start with Girl Undercover and read through Denial, The Truth, and Showdown. The books rely on an ongoing story, and the tension works best when the revelations arrive in order.
