Ghatti's Tale Books in Order

Ghatti's Tale is a science fantasy trilogy set on Methuen, a colony world where settlers from Earth have been stranded for centuries. Their society now depends on two unusual institutions, the Eumedicos, who heal, and the Seekers Veritas, human truth-readers paired for life with telepathic, catlike ghatti. At the center of the story is Doyce Marbon and her ghatti Bondmate, Khar'pern, whose partnership carries the series from the first crisis onward.

That bond is the heart of the series.

Finders-Seekers begins like a murder mystery inside a fully built secondary world. Seeker pairs are being attacked, fear is spreading, and Doyce and Khar find themselves pulled into a case that becomes far more personal than either expects. From there the books keep widening. What starts as an investigation grows into a story about public panic, private trauma, and the danger of powers that can reach directly into another mind.

The later books, Mind-Speaker's Call and Exiles' Return, push the story beyond one town or one case. Neighboring realms, especially Canderis and Marchmont, matter more and more, and so do the people known as Resonants and the feared rogue mindstealers called Gleaners. Greeno uses those tensions to ask hard questions about prejudice, safety, and what happens when a society decides that one kind of gift is acceptable and another is monstrous. By the third book, the series is also looking backward, toward the early history of the Seeker-ghatti bond, to see whether the past holds any way forward.

These are long, generous books.

Expect travel, politics, families under strain, old secrets, and plenty of conversations that matter just as much as the action scenes. The ghatti are not cute sidekicks. They are full partners, with their own histories, loyalties, and ways of understanding the world, and that gives the trilogy a different feel from more standard quest fantasy. There is also a quiet science fiction frame under everything, because Methuen is not a medieval world at all, but a place shaped by a lost colonial past and fading technology.

The trilogy is best read in order, because each book builds directly on the last and the emotional threads carry a lot of weight. If you like big paperback fantasy that mixes telepathy, mystery, social conflict, and deep human-animal bonds, Ghatti's Tale is the clearest place to see what Gayle Greeno does best.
