The Franki Amato Mysteries are where Traci Andrighetti really plants her flag. The series begins with Franki leaving behind an Austin cop job and heading to New Orleans to work at her best friend Veronica's PI agency, Private Chicks. In Limoncello Yellow, she is smart, stubborn, a little rattled, and very much not prepared for how weird her new city is about to get. That fish-out-of-water start matters, because a lot of the charm comes from watching Franki learn the rhythms of New Orleans while never losing her own straight-talking edge.

Her Sicilian nonna is constantly trying to engineer her love life, her personal plans rarely stay on track, and her investigations have a habit of colliding with family drama at the worst possible moment. That mix gives the books their tone. The murders matter, but so do the bad dates, the old superstitions, the apartment chaos, and the side characters who make Franki's world feel gloriously crowded.

There is a loose ongoing arc beneath the individual cases. Franki's relationships deepen, her roots in New Orleans grow stronger, and the stakes shift from simply surviving her first PI jobs to protecting the life she has built. You can see that progression from Limoncello Yellow and Prosecco Pink through later books like Campari Crimson, Galliano Gold, Nocino Noir, and Sambuca Scarlet. The cases still stand on their own, but the emotional payoff gets better if you follow them in order.

The series also makes room for a slightly broader travel mood than many cozies. Franki may be based in New Orleans, but her cases stretch into local legends, Italian family lore, holiday rituals, and the occasional out-of-town disaster. That helps explain why these books fit so well with the crossover Killer Foursome Mystery novels. Franki already feels like someone who can walk into a strange situation, argue with everybody, and still solve the case.

If you are new to Traci Andrighetti, this is usually the right door. Expect private-investigator mysteries with real momentum, a lot of personality, and a heroine who can handle voodoo rumors, family pressure, and murder before lunch.
