Series background & context

Four Brothers of Colt's Run Cross brings together oil money, ranch land, old love, and very public family stakes. The series centers on the Collingsworth family and the powerful empire tied to their Texas home turf. On paper that sounds glossy, but Joanna Wayne keeps the books grounded in property fights, dangerous secrets, hidden heirs, and the pressure that comes with being part of a family everyone is watching.

24 Karat Ammunition kicks things off with Langston Collingsworth, a businessman who discovers that the woman on the run needs his help, and that the child beside her is his. From there, Texas Gun Smoke and Point Blank Protector keep pushing on the same fault lines, who controls the land, who can be trusted, and how quickly money and influence can turn into real danger.

Loaded adds an undercover angle when a woman investigating the family finds herself dangerously distracted by Matt Collingsworth, and Miracle at Colts Run Cross works almost like a holiday coda, bringing Becky Collingsworth and her ex-husband together when their twin sons are kidnapped. That last book is worth noting because it broadens the family focus beyond the title's four brothers and shows how wide Wayne lets the emotional net spread.

This is a family with a lot to lose.

The setting matters here in a slightly different way than in Wayne's more stripped-down cowboy books. There is still ranch country and physical risk, but there is also wealth, legacy, reputation, and the question of who inherits what, not only property, but responsibility, guilt, and old damage. Wayne uses those pressures well, so the suspense feels tied to the family's identity, not just pasted on.

Read this series if you want a more expansive family setup with lovers from the past, children who change everything, and threats that grow out of land, money, and power. The books stand on their own, but in order they form a fuller picture of a family trying to hold onto its home while outsiders and old mistakes keep testing the weak spots.
