Forbidden Cove is Lavinia Kent in contemporary mode, and the change of period does not soften her favorite questions. These books are still about capable adults, complicated desire, and the trouble that starts when a carefully managed life suddenly stops obeying the plan. The difference is that the gowns and titles are gone, replaced by careers, money, public opinion, and the very modern mess of being seen.

In Unsuitable, Jordan Robinson is a wealthy widow who has spent years keeping her head down and staying out of gossip. Unmanageable keeps the age gap energy but gives it a different shape. Veronica Andersen is a lawyer with a clear career path and very little patience for distraction. Brian Walsh looks like the easy fling she thinks she can handle, but he turns out to be a former hockey player rebuilding after injury, a man with his own pride, losses, and second act. What starts as something casual gets harder to contain the more they actually see each other.

The through line in this series is not a big outside plot. It is the kind of heroine Kent chooses. Jordan and Veronica are grown women with money, competence, and strong habits of self protection. They are used to steering the room. The men they fall for are younger, but not lighter. Clay and Brian bring their own confidence, and the tension comes from the fact that nobody can pretend this is a simple fantasy. Desire collides with reputation, grief, ambition, and the question of whether love can survive being looked at from the outside.

That makes the tone feel a little different from Kent's historical work. These books are still sexy and emotionally intense, but they are also very interested in adulthood, in what happens after people have already made a first life and now have to decide whether they are brave enough to change it. The conflicts are grounded. Public exposure matters. So does work. So does the fear of looking foolish when you should know better.

There are only two books, and each can be read on its own. Together, though, they make a neat little pair, romances about women who are supposed to have everything under control and the men who prove that control is never the whole story.
