Series background & context

Felicity Philips Investigates follows a wedding planner whose professional ambitions keep colliding with criminal problems. Felicity works with wealthy and prominent clients and hopes to secure a royal wedding, a job that would demand careful organization and a reputation people can trust. When murder puts that reputation at risk, she has to learn something her normal work hasn't prepared her for: how to investigate a crime herself.

A successful event can't solve every problem.

The opening book, To Love and to Perish, makes Felicity a suspect and gives her an immediate reason to find the real killer. Waiting quietly while rivals damage her name is hardly a comfortable option. Her planning skills may help her manage people and details, but they don't make her an experienced detective. The series gets much of its energy from watching a capable professional adapt to a problem outside her training, with her livelihood and safety both involved.

Her helpers are unusually close to home. Buster the bulldog and Amber the ragdoll cat accompany her investigations, and Felicity can understand what they say. The animals have different personalities and don't always get along, so assistance arrives with argument and commentary attached. Their perspective makes the books more than wedding-themed crime stories. The household itself becomes part of the investigating team, bringing comic friction into situations that Felicity has urgent reasons to take seriously.

Tying the Noose, Aisle Kill Him, and A Dress to Die For continue the sequence. Weddings provide a useful meeting place for people with conflicting wants: clients, relatives, former partners, and suppliers may all have reasons to be unhappy with one another. Felicity's job puts her near those relationships and requires her to keep an event functioning despite them. When something criminal happens, the same social network that creates professional pressure can also supply clues, suspects, and obstacles.

These are comic cozy mysteries with an amateur investigator, talkative animal companions, and an ongoing career to protect. Start with To Love and to Perish to understand why Felicity first takes on detective work and how her pets become involved. Continue in order for the developing relationships and her ambitions as a planner. Readers who like animals with opinions and mysteries built around a busy profession will find both central here. The challenge isn't simply to catch someone: Felicity also needs to keep her clients, her household, and her own plans from being overwhelmed by the trouble that arrives alongside another supposedly happy occasion.
