Fallen Empire (Grace Draven) Books in Order

The Fallen Empire books are set in the Krael Empire, a brutal regime that treats magic as something to control, exploit, or kill. The series is held together by one big idea: the empire looks permanent until a handful of people, especially powerful women and the men allied with them, begin cracking it open from the edges. That gives the books a strong through-line even though each main novel centers on a different couple.

Phoenix Unbound starts the whole thing at full heat. Gilene has been saving the girls of her village by taking their place in a yearly sacrifice, using illusion and fire to survive what should kill her. Then Azarion, a gladiator with his own plans for escape and revenge, forces her into motion. Their story sets the tone for the series, harsh empire, dangerous travel, romance built under pressure, and people who refuse to stay broken.

The later books widen the map and the magic. Dragon Unleashed follows Halani, an earth mage hiding in plain sight, and Malachus, a draga whose fate is tied to lost dragon power. Raven Unveiled shifts toward ghosts, crumbling battlefields, and a woman who speaks to the dead. Each book stands on its own as a romance, but together they show the same empire from different corners, village, road, market, ruin, palace, and killing field.

This series likes sharp turns from intimacy to catastrophe.

What carries across the trilogy is the sense of collapse. The Krael Empire is failing from the inside, and every book asks who gets crushed when that happens, and who fights back. Magic is everywhere even when it is outlawed, and the world keeps getting stranger as old creatures, old debts, and old horrors return. The romances matter, but they are happening inside a much larger struggle over freedom, power, and the right to exist without chains.

If you want fantasy romance with more war, more movement, and a darker edge than Radiance, this is a great fit. Expect scarred heroes, capable heroines, rough roads, and love stories that have to survive an empire built to grind people down.
