An artifact hunter takes a job from a notorious leprechaun and discovers too late she’s stealing a fae prince, not an object. Dragged through the veil into a frozen kingdom ruled by the cursed King Vareck, she finds herself tied to the icy ruler who has haunted her dreams for years.
Series background & context
Faeted Seasons is a romantasy duet that combines fae courts, cursed winters and a very inconvenient fated-mates connection. Co written with Aurelia Jane, it starts with Beneath the Cursed Veil and continues into Beyond the Winter Kingdom.
The series follows a human thief and bounty hunter who makes a living recovering dangerous artifacts for people she probably should not trust. When a notorious leprechaun offers her a job that will finally clear her debts, she accepts, only to discover too late that she is not stealing an object but a fae prince.
Crossing the veil throws her into the frozen lands of Faerie, where the ruthless King Vareck rules a winter kingdom locked in an old curse. She has been dreaming about him for years without understanding why; he, in turn, has been searching the realms for the woman whose face has haunted him. Their first real meeting is less a reunion and more a collision between predator and prey.
Beneath the Cursed Veil sets up that clash of duty, desire and destiny. The heroine wants to finish the job, get paid and go home before the fae court decides to make an example of her. Vareck has other plans involving vows, bargains and using their strange bond to break the curse that is slowly killing his people.
In Beyond the Winter Kingdom the story pushes beyond court intrigue into the wider politics of Faerie. Old enemies test the fragile trust between thief and king, secrets about the origins of the curse surface and both characters have to decide whether they are willing to trade freedom for the chance at a future together.
Faeted Seasons balances sarcastic banter and modern sensibilities with classic fae drama, deadly magic, trickster bargains and landscapes that are beautiful but not safe. If you like your fae romances with a little humor, a lot of snow and a king who is grumpy for very good reasons, this is the corner of Kel Carpenter's work to explore.
