Series background & context

The Eve of Man trilogy marks a fascinating creative departure for husband-and-wife team Tom and Giovanna Fletcher. While Tom is widely recognized for his whimsical children's books and chart-topping songs, and Giovanna is celebrated for her relatable non-fiction and warm romantic novels, this series sees them stepping firmly into the darker, more intense territory of Young Adult fiction.

It is a project that combines their distinct voices into something entirely new.

The premise is terrifyingly plausible. Set in a near-future version of our world, humanity faces a slow, quiet extinction. For fifty years, a genetic crisis has prevented the birth of any female children. Men have watched their population age and dwindle, losing hope with every passing year.

Then comes Eve.

As the first girl born in half a century, Eve isn't just a child. She is the most valuable resource on the planet. To protect her—and the future of the species—she is raised in an isolated, high-tech enclosure known as the Tower. Her upbringing is strictly controlled by a group known as the "Mothers." While she has every luxury imaginable, her life is entirely manufactured. She is humanity’s last hope, but she is also its prisoner.

The story kicks into high gear as Eve approaches her sixteenth birthday. This date isn't a celebration; it is a deadline.

According to the plan laid out by the world government, Eve must choose a mate from three carefully selected suitors. Her duty is clear: begin the repopulation of Earth. Her personal feelings don't matter when the stakes are literally life or death for the human race. She has accepted this burden as her destiny, believing everything she has been told about the dangerous, ruined world outside her gilded cage.

But everything changes when she meets Bram.

Bram is a young man who isn't one of the hand-picked potential husbands. Through him, Eve gets a glimpse of a reality that contradicts the narrative spun by the Mothers. He offers her something she has never truly had: a choice.

The series moves at a breakneck pace, balancing high-stakes romance with the tension of a sci-fi thriller. As Eve and Bram begin to unravel the web of lies surrounding the Tower, they realize that saving humanity might mean destroying the systems built to protect it.

Unfolding across three books—starting with Eve of Man, followed by The Eve Illusion, and concluding with Man's Ruin—the trilogy utilizes the authors' real-life dynamic to great effect. They split the narrative duties, often trading perspectives to give distinct voices to the male and female protagonists. It is a gripping exploration of freedom, love, and the cost of survival.
