Series background & context

The Entangled series is a two-book young adult science-fiction story about music, quantum connection, and finding a family when you have spent your life alone. It begins with Entangled and concludes with Unmade. The setting is a far-future universe where humans are scattered across alien worlds and space travel has left many of them sick, isolated, or struggling to survive.

Cade is seventeen, sharp-edged, and used to relying on nobody but herself. She lives on the desert planet Andana, plays a cherry-red guitar for a living, and copes with a relentless jumble of sound in her head that she calls the Noise. Her music helps her stay grounded, but it also keeps her at a distance from almost everyone around her.

Then a hologram tells Cade that her past is not what she thought. She was created in a lab and entangled, at a subatomic level, with a boy named Xan. Cade has never met him, yet their connection is real, and Xan is trapped in a dangerous region of space. Finding him sends Cade onto a galaxy-spanning trip with smugglers, aliens, and Renna, a sentient spaceship with a personality of her own.

The science is big, but the story stays close to Cade.

At its heart, Entangled is about a teenager who has learned to protect herself so well that letting anyone in feels risky. The crew Cade joins are not instantly perfect friends. They argue, carry old wounds, and sometimes make bad choices. Still, their growing loyalty gives the series its emotional pull. Cade's music is part of that too, not just a cool detail, but a way she understands people and the world.

Unmade picks up with Cade and her crew facing a wider threat from the Unmakers, who are tracking what remains of humanity across the cosmos. Cade's search also brings her closer to the mystery of her mother and forces her to think about what saving people really requires. The second book keeps the action moving through ship battles, strange worlds, and urgent escapes, while giving more weight to grief, love, and the cost of holding on.

Expect a character-driven space adventure with found family, romance, a little weird science, and plenty of tension. Start with Entangled, since Unmade continues Cade's story directly and works best after you have met the crew and learned why Xan matters to her.
