Author bio

Emma Heatherington grew up in Donaghmore, County Tyrone, in a world full of music and stories. She started writing young, making up songs in her bedroom and asking family and neighbours to listen. Long before the novels, she was already chasing the same feeling she looks for now, a story that can make people laugh, ache, and keep turning pages.

Nashville was part of the plan for a while.

Then life changed. When Heatherington was 15, her mother died suddenly of a heart attack, and she has spoken about having to grow up overnight while helping care for five younger siblings, including a baby. After school she worked in PR, but writing stayed with her. In 2005, encouraged by her aunt Kathleen, she entered a magazine short story competition and won.

That win opened the door. She staged early musical work, kept writing, and published her first novel, Crazy For You, in 2007. She also wrote romantic suspense as Emma Louise Jordan, which shows another side of her work. Whether she is writing light romance or darker material, she tends to focus on ordinary people carrying private hurts.

A lot of readers first meet Heatherington through her more emotional novels. The Legacy of Lucy Harte follows a woman whose heart transplant ties her to a little girl's family. A Part of Me and You digs into motherhood, grief, and a secret that changes several lives. The Promise brings love into the long shadow of the Troubles. These books may have romance at their core, but they are just as interested in loss, family, memory, and second chances.

Ireland is never just scenery.

Heatherington uses Irish villages, city streets, coastlines, and lough shores as places where people can hide, heal, and begin again. Secrets in the Snow and This Christmas wrap big feelings in winter settings. Rewrite the Stars leans into music, missed chances, and first love. Even early books like Playing The Field and Since You've Been Gone keep one foot in comedy and the other in real-life complication.

She has also written stage musicals, educational plays, and short films, and has worked on memoirs for Philomena Begley and Nathan Carter. That mix of fiction, stage work, and life writing helps explain why her books feel so conversational. She likes big emotions, but she keeps them close to the ground.

Heatherington still lives in Donaghmore with her partner, singer-songwriter and artist Jim McKee, and their five children. Home, music, and family keep showing up in her work because they are part of the fabric of her life.
