Author bio

Emma Hart grew up in Barnstaple, Devon, and she has said she was a country girl from the start. Books were part of the furniture early on. Her mother encouraged her to read whenever she could, and by the time she was eight, Emma was already telling people that one day she was going to write one of her own.

That part, at least, stuck.

Before publishing took over her life, Hart left school young, started a hairdressing apprenticeship, and then took a different path when she became a mother as a teenager. Writing did not arrive through a neat career plan. It came later, after she discovered indie books online in 2012 and her husband told her, more or less, to write a book instead of always reading one.

So she did.

Her first published work grew into The Mauve Legacy, a young adult fantasy series built around witches, danger, and big supernatural stakes. Those books showed an early version of what would become a Hart trademark, fast pacing, lots of feeling, and characters who rarely keep quiet when they should. From there, she moved into contemporary romance and new adult fiction, and that shift opened the door to the books many readers know her for now.

A big early breakthrough was The Love Game, the first book in her Game series. It helped put her name in front of a much wider romance audience and established the mix that shows up again and again in her work, sharp banter, messy attraction, and people who talk big until feelings catch up with them. Later books like Miss Mechanic, Four Day Fling, and Best Served Cold leaned even harder into romantic comedy, with stubborn leads, close quarters, family chaos, and a lot of lines that feel built to be read with a grin.

She also likes building connected worlds. The White Peak books, including The Bookworm's Guide to Dating and The Introvert's Guide to Online Dating, bring in bookstores, awkward setups, meddling friends, and the kind of small-town energy where everybody knows everybody else's business. In Love Language and the Aristocrat Diaries books, she shifts to the English countryside and modern aristocratic settings, but keeps the same interest in heroines who want their own lives, not the tidy version other people planned for them.

And then there is her mystery side.

Series like Holly Woods Files and Fox Point Files show Hart playing with crime plots without giving up the humor. Twisted Bond pairs a private investigator with a murder case and a detective she would rather not want, while Dead and Breakfast drops a heroine back into a seaside town, an inherited bed-and-breakfast, and a body she definitely did not ask for. Even in the mysteries, the appeal is similar, lively voices, strong chemistry, and enough emotional mess to keep things interesting between clues.

Over the years Hart has written more than eighty romance novels and has become a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. She now lives in North Wales with her husband, their children, several cats, a very large German Shepherd, and a flock of chickens and ducks that apparently resist precise head counts. That detail feels about right for her books too. They are funny, busy, affectionate stories, full of people trying to keep order while life cheerfully ignores the plan.
