Earthfall Books in Order

The Earthfall trilogy is Mark Walden's alien invasion story, but it does not begin with armies, speeches, or flashy heroics. It begins with confusion. Strange ships appear over London, and people start walking toward them in a trance-like state, pulled by a signal they cannot resist. Only Sam seems immune. That small difference leaves him trapped in a world that has fallen almost overnight, with no clear explanation and very little hope.

By the time the story properly gets going, Sam has already spent months hiding and scavenging in the wreckage of the city. London matters here. Its empty streets, underground spaces, and ruined buildings give the first book a tense, hunted feeling that never really lets up. Sam is not presented as a chosen savior from the start. He is scared, isolated, and trying to survive. Then he learns two things very quickly: he is not as alone as he thought, and whatever the invaders have done to him may be the key to everything.

It feels like invasion fiction stripped down to survival.

As Sam joins other survivors, the series starts widening its focus. The aliens, known as the Voidborn, are not just occupying Earth, they are reshaping it, and the resistance is fragmented, desperate, and often forced to make ugly choices. Earthfall stays close to Sam's immediate fight to stay alive, but Retribution begins opening the story out into a larger conflict. New resistance groups appear, hidden motives come into view, and the mystery around Sam's family history becomes much harder to ignore.

The trilogy also leans into science-fiction ideas without losing its pace. There are drones, strange signals, nanite-driven changes to the human body, and a deeper backstory involving older powers and older enemies. In Redemption, those threads matter even more as Sam has to deal with what he is becoming, what the invaders want, and whether saving Earth will demand more from him than he can give. The mythology grows, but the books keep the emotional focus on the cost of fighting back.

The battles get bigger, but the books stay close to Sam.

That is what gives the series its edge. Earthfall is fast and action-heavy, but it is also interested in fear, trust, grief, and the way ordinary people behave when the world stops making sense. The tone is darker than H.I.V.E., with more survival tension and less room for jokes, yet it still has the same Walden talent for momentum and clear stakes. If you want a compact trilogy with ruined-city atmosphere, relentless alien pressure, and a teenager forced into a fight far beyond anything he expected, Earthfall delivers that very well.
