Series background & context

Dragonborne Kings is Sara Fields's dark romantasy series about dragon shifter rulers, human women, prophecy, and realms under attack. Each book centers on a different king, but the larger conflict with the Dark King and the threatened realms ties the series together.

Dragon King introduces Hayleigh and Kol, the king of Blazelheim. Hayleigh is pulled into a magical world where her family history and the realm's survival are more connected than she expects. Kol is a dragon shifter king trying to protect his land from forces tied to Helheim.

Ice King shifts to Ella Snow and Nykor, the Dragonborne King of Icegard. The book uses a Cinderella-like setup before moving into an icy realm under siege. Feral King brings in Sophia and Roken, a cursed king whose own power has made him dangerous. Dark King follows a street-surviving heroine taken by the ruler most feared across the realms.

The series has fairy-tale echoes, dragon mates, magical kingdoms, curses, and prophecy, all filtered through Fields's darker romance style.

Read in order if you want the realm politics to build cleanly. Start with Dragon King for the core rules and the first look at the dragonborne world.
