Series background & context
Captive Brides is one of Sara Fields's early sci-fi romance series, and it lays out many of the pieces readers now associate with her work: human women, alien systems of control, strict training centers, dominant mates, and a promise of romance after a very rough beginning.
The series opens with Wedded to the Warriors. Aimee Harrington has spent her life hiding because she is an unauthorized third child. One reckless act brings the authorities down on her, and instead of a normal prison, she is sent to a facility that prepares women to become alien brides.
Each book follows a different heroine. Her Alien Doctors centers on Jenny Monroe, whose defiance puts her in the medical wing. Taming Their Pet follows Isabella Bedard after family politics expose her. Sold to the Beasts and Mated to the Dragons push the series deeper into alien cultures, forced arrangements, and women who have to decide what survival means when desire and danger are tangled together.
The ongoing setting matters. Earth is not a free, easy place for these women, and space is not safer. The bride program, the detention facility, and the alien societies around it create the pressure that drives the books.
Read these in order if you can. The individual romances stand apart, but the world is clearest when you start with Wedded to the Warriors.
