White Knight

by Meghan March

2019

Cannon Freeman never expected to be anyone’s white knight, least of all for the infamous Casso crime family that has always kept him at arm’s length. But with enemies circling and Drew Carson in the crossfire, he steps up. To save the people he loves, Cannon has to confront his father and the legacy he never wanted.

Series background & context

The Dirty Mafia Duet follows Cannon Freeman, the so‑called black sheep of the Casso crime family, as he discovers that walking away from a bloody legacy is not as simple as pretending it is not yours.

Cannon grew up on the fringes of power. His father, Dominic Casso, runs an organized‑crime empire but refuses to publicly acknowledge Cannon as his son. That half‑in, half‑out position lets Cannon build a life around his nightclub and keep just enough distance from the worst of the family business, at least on the surface. Loyalty, however, is not something you can halfway give, and he knows exactly how dangerous crossing Dominic can be.

Black Sheep cracks that uneasy balance the moment Drew Carson walks into Cannon’s club looking for a job. She is hiding more than she lets on, and her interest in the Casso world is not purely financial. As Cannon starts to care about her, he is forced to question stories he has always accepted and to face parts of the organization he tried not to see. The book mixes smoky club scenes with mafia politics, slowly revealing just how tangled Drew’s secrets are with his own.

White Knight picks up as everything catches fire. Betrayals come to light, alliances shift, and the Casso family is thrust into a dangerous new era. Cannon, who never expected to be anyone’s hero, finds himself in the role whether he wants it or not. Protecting Drew and the people who now depend on him means making choices that could get him killed and finally deciding where his loyalty really lies.

The duet leans into romantic suspense, full of shifting loyalties, moral gray areas, and the constant question of whether love can grow in the middle of so much violence. At its heart, though, it is a redemption story, about a man who has always seen himself as expendable daring to believe he might deserve more, and about the woman who helps him see that clearly.
