Series background & context

The Devil's Duet is set in a dark, feverish version of New Orleans where power feels personal and every promise comes with a cost. The central pair are Everett Rett Ramses and Emma O'Brien, and their story starts with fate, but it never feels gentle.

Rett is the kind of Romig hero who does not ask much when he can take. Emma enters his world through family history and arranged expectations, but she is not written as a passive piece on the board. That push and pull gives the duet its energy.

New Orleans matters here. The mood of the city, old family rivalries, and a sense of looming danger shape the whole series. The books mix noir romance, possessive love, and organized power struggles without losing sight of the relationship at the center.

You can start with Fate's Demand, which works as a prequel glimpse of their first connection, then move into Devil's Deal and Angel's Promise. Those last two novels tell one complete story and are best read back to back.

If you want a shorter Aleatha Romig binge with arranged-marriage tension, a dangerous alpha hero, and a setting that feels humid, haunted, and watchful, the Devil's Duet does exactly that.
