Born in Fire

Series background & context

Demon Days, Vampire Nights is not just a single series, it is a whole shared world that threads several trilogies and duologies into one long arc. The common thread is Reagan Somerset, a supernatural bounty hunter with rare magic, and the trouble that follows her and her allies across cities and realms.

The story begins in what was originally the Fire and Ice trilogy. In Born in Fire, Reagan hunts dangerous creatures for cash in New Orleans, keeping her true abilities carefully hidden. An elder vampire named Darius steals one of her bounties, and with it any hope of paying her bills. His solution is to offer her a job on a top secret case. Working together forces Reagan to confront demons in the literal underworld and in her own past.

Raised in Fire and Fused in Fire deepen that conflict. Murders in Seattle, corrupt magical authorities, and increasingly bold demons all point toward the uncomfortable truth that the underworld is taking an interest in Reagan specifically. Her identity, and what it means for the balance of power, becomes the question everyone wants answered.

The Magical Mayhem arc picks up with Penny, a seemingly mild mannered woman who accidentally turns a coven of witches into nightmares and discovers she is a rare Natural Witch. Natural Witch, Natural Mage, and Natural Dual Mage follow her partnership with the rogue mage Emery as they take on the abusive Mages’ Guild. Their fight ties directly into the threats Reagan has been stirring up.

Warrior Fae books introduce yet another heroine. In Warrior Fae Trapped and Warrior Fae Princess, Charity, a college student from a rough Chicago background, finds out she is a lost fae warrior caught between vampire and shifter factions. Her choices echo into the wider world as the lines between realms start to fray.

By the time you reach Revealed in Fire, Mentored in Fire, and Battle with Fire, all three tracks converge. Reagan’s heritage is out in the open. Lucifer has taken notice. The elves, vampires, shifters, mages, and fae all have skin in the game, and old grudges resurface as everyone scrambles to either claim Reagan or stop her.

Despite the escalating stakes, the books keep a light, irreverent tone. Reagan’s sarcasm, Penny’s earnestness, and Charity’s survivor grit give very different windows into the same conflicts. Side characters cross over constantly, so watching their relationships evolve is half the fun.

This page focuses on the Demon Days, Vampire Nights reading path that lines up with the books shown here. Whether you follow publication order or stick with one heroine at a time, you will end up in the same wild final battle, with a better sense of just how much these characters have risked to get there.
