Series background & context

Deklan Falls is a hard-boiled detective series set in Oldtowne, Ohio, a small city with a big supply of corruption, old grudges, and people who would rather leave the past buried. Deklan is a former cop and private investigator whose own mistakes are never far behind him. He is sober, trying to stay that way, and not especially interested in pretending the world is cleaner than it is.

That makes him useful when a case gets ugly.

The series begins with One Against Many, which introduces Deklan as a damaged man working in a city where corruption reaches into the police department and beyond. He is not a polished, all-knowing detective. He gets worn down, makes difficult calls, and has to live with what those calls cost. The cases give him a reason to keep moving, even when he would rather shut the door and disappear.

Oldtowne matters as much as any character. It is the kind of place where everyone has heard a version of the story, but no one is sure whose version is true. Its familiar streets, local power players, and hidden history give the books a tense, close-in feel. Deklan knows how institutions can fail people, so he tends to look past the official explanation.

Across Fracktured, Radiowaves, and Judgement Town, the books continue to mix crime investigation with personal pressure. Deklan is drawn toward cases involving violence, secrets, and people at their worst. The action is grounded in detective work, interviews, leads, and the slow realization that an apparently simple problem may be tied to something larger.

These are noir-leaning mysteries with a rough edge.

Readers can expect a flawed investigator, a rain-soaked sense of place, and stories that care about consequences. Deklan is not chasing a tidy puzzle for its own sake. He is trying to find the truth in a city that has learned to protect the wrong people. Start with One Against Many for his backstory and the clearest introduction to Oldtowne, then continue in publication order as the series expands his world.
