Their honeymoon becomes another survival test, old enemies are not as gone as they should be, and a vulnerable boy needs protection while vengeance keeps closing in.

These books like momentum.

What keeps the series working is that Cassi and Jared feel like partners, even when they are annoyed with each other or trapped in impossible situations. The romance is clean and heartfelt, but it is not passive. They argue, improvise, take risks, and keep choosing to trust each other under pressure. That makes the emotional side of the story stronger than you might expect from books built around kidnappings, crime bosses, disappearing grooms, and dangerous escapes.

The art world setting also gives the series a slightly unusual flavor. Auctions, galleries, collectors, and forged objects are part of the fun, and they help the suspense feel different from a standard detective plot. At the same time, the stories stay accessible. You do not need to know anything about art to follow the stakes.

If you want the most plot-driven of Nunes's connected series, this is probably it. It works best in order, because the villains, the fallout, and the romance all carry forward. By the end, the three books feel less like separate capers and more like one long chase built around trust, faith, and a couple who keep finding themselves in exactly the wrong place at exactly the right time.
