Author bio
David Kreizman is an American writer whose work has moved between daytime television, kids' audio fiction, and young adult novels. He has spent much of his career figuring out how to keep an audience coming back, whether the story arrives daily on television, episode by episode in headphones, or across a single novel.
A graduate of the University of Virginia, Kreizman entered television early in his career and became part of the writing world of Guiding Light. The long-running daytime drama gave him a practical education in ongoing stories, large casts, and the hard work of turning emotional cliffhangers into tomorrow's problems.
Serial storytelling became his everyday craft.
He eventually served as head writer on Guiding Light, where the writing team earned both a Daytime Emmy and a Writers Guild Award. Later jobs included co-head writing roles on As the World Turns and All My Children, plus a stint as head writer for WWE. Those assignments meant handling stories that needed to move quickly while still giving characters reasons to collide, change, and make a mess of things.
Kreizman later helped launch Gen-Z Media, a company focused on scripted audio for young audiences, and became its chief creative officer. He co-created and served as head writer for The Unexplainable Disappearance of Mars Patel, a serialized middle-grade mystery about kids investigating disappearances linked to a billionaire inventor. The series received a Peabody Award in 2016.
He knows how to end an episode on a cliffhanger.
In 2019, Kreizman published his first YA novel, The Year They Fell. It begins with five high school seniors who were close as preschoolers but have drifted apart. When their parents die in the same plane crash, Josie, Jack, Archie, Harrison, and Dayana are forced back into each other's lives. The book follows their shared grief, the secrets around them, and the uneven process of building a new kind of family.
The novel gives each teen a point of view, so its drama comes from clashing personalities as much as the tragedy at its center. It takes on friendship, loss, racism, sexual assault, anxiety, family pressure, and first love without pretending that growing up is tidy. Readers who like a big teen ensemble, messy relationships, and emotionally direct stories will find the focus squarely on people trying to get through an impossible year.
Audio work remains an important part of his career. Along with The Unexplainable Disappearance of Mars Patel, Gen-Z Media's catalog has included projects such as Six Minutes, and Kreizman continues to develop scripted stories for young listeners.
He is based in Maplewood, New Jersey, where he lives with his wife and three children.
