Series background & context

Charles Soule's Daredevil: Back in Black begins with Matt Murdock back in New York, back in his red suit, and back in the complicated overlap between law and vigilantism. Matt has returned to public life as a prosecutor, but his work as Daredevil keeps pulling him into crimes the courtroom cannot easily solve.

The key new figure is Blindspot, a young hero Matt trains while trying not to repeat the mistakes that have damaged so many people close to him. Their mentor-and-student relationship gives the run a personal center, even as the cases widen from neighborhood threats to political power plays.

Hell's Kitchen never stays quiet for long.

Soule brings his legal background directly into the series. Matt's courtroom work is not filler between fights. It shapes what he believes justice should mean, and it creates problems when his public role runs into secrets he can only handle as Daredevil.

The story moves through conflicts involving the Hand, the Kingpin, Muse, and eventually Wilson Fisk's rise to the office of mayor. Fisk's political power changes the basic rules of Matt's life. A man Daredevil knows as a criminal can now use the law, the police, and public opinion against him.

The run is collected in a clear sequence beginning with Chinatown and Supersonic. Read the volumes in order, since Blindspot's story and the long fight with Fisk build steadily toward The Death of Daredevil.

Expect street-level superhero drama with courtroom tension, hard choices, and a Matt Murdock who is trying to serve justice from both sides of the mask.
