Dangerous Creatures (Kami Garcia) Books in Order

Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl's Dangerous Creatures series moves away from Ethan and Lena, but it stays firmly inside the Caster world. The new leads are Ridley Duchannes and Link Lincoln, two characters who never had much interest in behaving sensibly. Ridley is a Dark Caster and Siren with a talent for creating chaos. Link is her stubbornly loyal ex-boyfriend, a musician, and often the person trying to keep the situation from becoming a complete disaster.

It usually becomes a disaster anyway.

The short prequel Dangerous Dream starts the transition from Gatlin to New York City. In Dangerous Creatures, Ridley and Link land in a scene of clubs, bands, Casters, and people with competing plans. What begins as a chance to chase music and freedom turns into a dangerous mystery tied to Link's band and a threat that follows them far beyond the stage.

Dangerous Deception pushes the story further after Ridley disappears. Link's search takes him through Caster tunnels and toward New Orleans, where he finds new questions about secret experiments, old enemies, and the reach of the families he thought he understood. The books widen the magical world while staying close to a relationship built on attraction, mistrust, and the possibility that neither person is quite good for the other.

Ridley and Link are not Ethan and Lena.

That is the point. Ridley is prickly, funny, defensive, and rarely interested in being rescued. Link is more open-hearted, but he is not naïve about the danger around her. Their arguments, loyalty, and terrible timing give the series a faster, sharper tone than the main Beautiful Creatures novels.

Readers can expect romance, mystery, underground Caster politics, and plenty of supernatural trouble. New York and New Orleans replace much of Gatlin's sleepy-town mood with nightlife, travel, and a more active magical scene. Still, the books keep the series' interest in family history and the ways old choices keep following younger people.

Start with the four Beautiful Creatures novels if you can. They introduce the Caster rules, the larger cast, and the history that gives Ridley and Link's choices extra weight. Then read Dangerous Dream, Dangerous Creatures, and Dangerous Deception. This spin-off is a side road, but it is not a quiet one.
