Author bio
Dana Marton writes the kind of books that move. Some race through kidnappings, covert missions, and small-town murders. Others open into fantasy worlds, royal intrigue, or big historical stories about art, love, and survival. Across all of them, she tends to pair high stakes with people who are carrying more than they say out loud.
Before writing full time, Marton studied business and worked in the corporate world. Then she changed course. She went back to school to study writing at Seton Hill University and later at Harvard University, a turn she has described as choosing the work she was meant to do.
That switch shows in the range of her career.
Marton first built a large readership with romantic suspense, especially for Harlequin Intrigue. Those books lean into soldiers, bodyguards, spies, and women caught in dangerous situations, but they also make room for banter, bruised feelings, and genuine tenderness. Early and mid-career titles like Camouflage Heart, Tall, Dark and Lethal, Saved by the Monarch, and The Spy Wore Spurs helped establish her as a dependable name for fast, emotional suspense.
She didn't stay in one lane for long. In the Broslin Creek books, including Deathwatch, Deathscape, and Broslin Bride, she shifted into a small-town setting full of cops, locals, family history, and murder cases that hit close to home. Readers who like connected communities often gravitate there, because the town itself starts to feel like part of the cast.
Her books have picked up major recognition along the way. Marton won the Daphne du Maurier Award of Excellence, was a RITA finalist, and later won a RITA for Flash Fire. She has also written more than fifty novels, with translations in many languages, which helps explain why her bibliography feels both wide and well traveled.
Then came fantasy. The Third Scroll/Reluctant Concubine, followed by Accidental Sorceress and Guardian Queen, opened up the Hardstorm Saga, where prophecy, war, healing magic, and romance all matter. The tone is bigger and more epic than her suspense work, but the same interest is still there: ordinary people pushed into dangerous roles, trying to decide what kind of courage they actually have.
Under the name Marta Molnar, she also writes historical and women's fiction. The Secret Life of Sunflowers and Girl Braiding Her Hair turn toward art history, hidden lives, and women rebuilding themselves across different eras. Those books show another side of her work, slower in some ways, but still built around strong emotional momentum and women making difficult choices.
These days, Marton lives in the Northeast United States. She has said she loves art history, is a self-taught artist, and writes in her own version of Monet's garden, which feels like a pretty good image for an author whose stories range from firefights to flower-filled studios.
