D.I. Denning and D.S. Fisher Books in Order

Graeme Hampton's Denning and Fisher novels are London-set police procedurals led by DI Matthew Denning and DS Molly Fisher. Each book begins with a death, a disappearance, or a crime scene that refuses to make sense. Denning and Fisher then work outward from the evidence, finding older grudges, hidden lives, and people with strong reasons to keep the truth out of reach.

Run For Cover brings Denning and Fisher into conflict with a criminal gang, a missing undercover officer, and resistance from within the police. In Shame the Devil, two apparently unconnected murders reveal a secret shared by the victims. Truth Lies Dying begins in an abandoned Underground station, where the stabbing of a homeless man opens a trail toward an old fraud case, dangerous associates, and a threat aimed at Fisher herself.

London matters throughout. Hampton moves the investigations between East and North London, using familiar streets, homes, parks, transport spaces, and police offices as places where ordinary routines can hide very dark events. The city is large enough for people to disappear, change their names, or keep damaging secrets for years, but close enough that old actions can still catch up with them.

These books are dark but straightforward crime novels, with a steady police-investigation pace and plenty of pressure on the detectives as the stakes rise. Each mystery can be read on its own, but reading in order gives more room for the recurring team and the ongoing threads in Denning and Fisher's lives.
