Series background & context

The Cuvier Women trilogy begins with a death that turns an already complicated family into a public scandal. Jean Cuvier, a wealthy New Orleans shipping businessman, is murdered, and the people left behind learn that he had three wives.

His wives, and the women connected to them, must sort through betrayal, grief, money, and the question of who wanted Jean dead. The mystery links Wronged, Betrayed, and Beguiled, while each book also follows a central romantic relationship.

New Orleans matters here.

The city gives the series its atmosphere, with old money, Creole family history, social expectations, and a world in which a secret can be both powerful and dangerous. The women have very different reactions to the truth about Jean, but none of them can simply walk away from what he left behind.

These are historical romances with a stronger thread of suspense than many of McDaniel's Western stories. Readers can expect tangled family loyalties, shifting trust, and a murder investigation that continues across the trilogy. Begin with Wronged, because the revelation of Jean Cuvier's double life and the earliest clues are the foundation for everything that follows.
