Series background & context
The Burnett Brides series follows the sprawling Burnett family across two versions of Texas romance. The first books are historical Westerns set around Fort Worth. Later books move into the present, where the family ranch, its legacy, and its unusually persistent ancestors still shape the next generation.
At the center of the historical stories is Eugenia Burnett, a widow with a direct goal, she wants wives for her sons and grandchildren for herself. Her plans collide with a stage performer, an injured woman caught in an outlaw's path, and a doctor who challenges a marshal determined to stay single.
Eugenia does not give up easily.
The contemporary books keep the family connection but add a matchmaking ghost, a ranch that must adapt to modern life, and Burnett men carrying private burdens. Travis, Tanner, Tucker, Joshua, Jacob, and Justin each face a different romantic complication, from postwar trauma and danger to lost memories and unwanted publicity. The family spirit may know who belongs together, but getting stubborn people to agree is another matter.
These books mix cowboy settings, family banter, danger at the edges, and warm romantic payoffs. The historical and contemporary sections have different casts and eras, yet both are built around the same big Texas family. Start with The Rancher Takes a Bride for the original Burnetts, or begin with Travis for the contemporary, ghost-assisted branch.
