Series background & context
The Cursed Chicks Club series follows Ravena Valentina, usually called RV, a woman whose life gets upended when she discovers her former mother-in-law really was a witch. Not only that, the woman has left RV with a curse that ties them together even after death. Mildred now haunts her in the form of a possessive Siamese cat, and the only way RV can win back her freedom is by cleaning up the magical damage Mildred left behind.
So yes, it gets weird fast.
The books move like a paranormal road trip. RV sets off in a pink camper van, trying to right old wrongs while learning the rules of a magical world she barely understands. Along the way she collects a memorable crew: Sol, a magician with his own secrets, Marco, a former wizard's assistant, Richie, a child coming into dangerous powers, and a growing circle of magical allies and problems. Talking animals, enchanted objects, cursed creatures, and unpredictable enemies are all part of the ride.
The traveling setting matters a lot here. Instead of staying in one cozy small town, the series keeps moving through campgrounds, roadside stops, strange communities, and magical trouble spots. That gives the books a restless, adventurous feel. RV is almost always in motion, and so is the story. One book may throw her into a murder investigation, another into a quest involving a cursed frog, a dragon, or a child everyone wants to use for their own ends.
At the heart of the series, though, there are two big ongoing arcs. One is RV's effort to break the curse binding her to Mildred. The other is the growing danger around Richie and his powers. As the books go on, RV stops being someone who is just trying to survive magical chaos and becomes someone who has to choose what kind of protector, friend, and wielder of magic she wants to be. The stakes get larger, but the series never loses its sense of humor.
That balance is what makes these books easy to sink into. They are playful without being flimsy. RV can be exasperated, sarcastic, and overwhelmed, but she keeps going. The magic system has its own vocabulary and rules, yet the emotional core is simple: found family, loyalty, second chances, and the awful truth that doing the right thing can be a whole lot of work.
If you like paranormal mysteries that also feel like fantasy adventures, this series sits comfortably in that middle ground. Start with 1 Flew Over the Raven's Nest and keep going in order. The characters, magical threats, and long-running tensions build from book to book, and part of the pleasure is watching RV slowly realize that the bizarre caravan around her has become, for better or worse, her people.
