Series background & context

Crescentwood is where RA Smyth first introduced readers to her brand of dark, twisty romance. The trilogy follows Sophie, a girl who has spent her life scraping by with her mum until a tragedy rips that world away. After her mother’s death, the father she never knew appears, claims her and ships her across the ocean to a wealthy American suburb that looks glossy on the surface and rotten underneath.

In Three Divisions, Sophie is dropped into an elite high school where her surname carries power but earns her nothing but hatred. Two golden boys, Barrett and Preston, lead the charge to make her life hell, determined to punish her for the crimes of the man who raised her. At the same time Aiden and Ty, boys from the rougher side of town, seem to be everywhere she turns, watching, guarding and hiding secrets of their own.

Crescentwood is crawling with gang connections, dirty politicians and people who see Sophie as a pawn in games she does not yet understand.

As the story moves into Two Forces, Sophie starts to see just how deep her father’s criminal network runs. His plans are slotting into place, bodies are dropping and the threats inside school are no longer just cruel pranks or hallway fights. Creepy anonymous notes show up in her locker, warnings and obsessions wrapped together, and any moment of happiness she snatches with Aiden, Ty, Barrett or Preston is shadowed by the knowledge that someone is always watching.

One Family brings everything to a head. Sophie and her four guys are finally on the same page romantically, but the outside pressure has never been worse. Rival gangs are circling, a violent crew called the Feral Beasts is making moves and powerful families would rather bury the truth than let it reach the light. The core of the trilogy becomes whether this mismatched group can turn themselves into a real unit in time to protect each other and make it out of Crescentwood alive.

Across the series you can expect high school bully dynamics, a heavy dose of stalking and gang tension, and a heroine who grows from exhausted survivor to someone willing to call the shots. The tone is dark and emotional, with strong trigger warnings for various forms of abuse, but it is also packed with loyalty, found family and increasingly steamy reverse harem romance. If you like your academy stories messier and more crime laced, Crescentwood is an intense place to start.
