Author bio
Connilyn Cossette grew up in the rainy Pacific Northwest with her nose buried in books, especially the kind that whisked her away to ancient battlefields, crowded marketplaces, and quiet villages far from her own world.
As a kid she stacked library books higher than her head and dreamed, mostly in secret, of seeing her own stories on those shelves someday. Historical novels made the past feel alive to her, and they planted the first small seeds of the writer she would become.
That dream stayed tucked away while life moved forward. She married, moved around the United States with her husband, and eventually became an adoptive mom to two children she later homeschooled. Somewhere between math lessons, laundry, and endless pots of coffee, she kept scribbling scenes on scraps of paper and imagining the ancient world of the Bible in vivid detail.
For years almost no one knew she was quietly shaping a manuscript. When she finally gathered the courage to share it, she entered a couple of writing contests and was stunned when the story placed well, earned an award, and caught the attention of an agent. Those early affirmations nudged her from private dreaming into a full publishing journey.
Her debut novel, Counted with the Stars, released in 2016 and launched the Out From Egypt series. Through the eyes of an Egyptian slave named Kiya, Connilyn retold the Exodus story in a way that felt intimate and human, not distant or dusty. Readers responded, and the book picked up award nominations that confirmed there was a real appetite for this kind of biblical fiction.
From there she built a sweeping connected world. The Out From Egypt trilogy follows an Egyptian, a Hebrew midwife, and a Canaanite woman through the Exodus and the wilderness years. The Cities of Refuge books move into the era of Israel’s sanctuary towns, exploring how justice, mercy, and family loyalty collide. The Covenant House novels center on Philistine-born siblings grafted into a Levite family that guards the Ark of the Covenant, while The King’s Men series runs alongside the early reign of King Saul, following four young cousins as they wrestle with courage, calling, and the cost of war.
Across these series and in her contributions to the Ordinary Women of the Bible line, including The Healer's Touch: Tikva's Story and The Life Giver, Shiphrah's Story, Connilyn returns again and again to certain themes. She is drawn to outsiders and adoptees, to people caught between cultures, to women and men who carry deep shame yet find unexpected welcome in the God of Israel.
Her own life has held its share of plot twists, including a season of battling breast cancer. Through it all she has continued to write, homeschool, and cheer on her now-grown kids, often with a stack of obscure history books nearby. When she is not drafting a new story, she loves traveling with her husband, exploring old sites, and daydreaming about what daily life might have looked like for ordinary people in the ancient world.
Today Connilyn lives just north of Charlotte, North Carolina, and keeps returning, book after book, to the same quiet hope that started it all. She wants readers to step into her stories, feel the dust of the roads and the weight of the questions her characters ask, and close the last page more curious about the Bible and the God who still speaks through it.
