Author bio

C.N. Crawford is the pen name used by a writing duo, Christine and Nick Crawford, who built a big fantasy romance and urban fantasy catalog by writing the kinds of books they clearly love to read: dangerous magic, sharp banter, cursed heroes, and worlds where falling in love usually makes everything more complicated.

They come to that work from very different places. Christine is from Lexington, Massachusetts, and has long been drawn to New England folklore, especially the older, darker corners of it. Nick spent his childhood in Vermont, reading fantasy and science fiction through long winters. That split shows up in the books. There is often a mix of eerie old-world mood and fast, modern momentum.

Before writing full time, they had other careers. Nick worked as a biologist, and Christine worked as a school psychologist.

That background helps explain something about the books. Even when the setup is wild, fallen angels, demon cities, fae academies, vampire courts, the stories tend to stay close to character pressure: who is lying, who is trapped, who is trying to survive, and who is falling for exactly the wrong person.

Their early work includes The Witching Elm, which leans into witches, Boston history, and a darker young adult feel. From there, their world grew fast. Magic Hunter opens a paranormal series full of demon hunters, vampires, and shifting loyalties. Court of Shadows brought in magical trials and fae academy tension. Dark King moved into sea-fae politics and exile. Frost gave readers a sharper romantasy setup, with a deadly contest, a fae king, and plenty of sparks.

Across the catalog, a few things come up again and again. Their books love hidden identities, enemies who become allies, magical institutions with ugly secrets, and heroines who are in over their heads but rarely back down. Readers who pick up Crawford usually know they are going to get movement. The plots tend to run hard, the chapters push forward, and the romance is usually tangled up with danger rather than sitting off to the side.

They have also written both together and separately under the same name. On their author pages, they note that some books are by both of them and some are by Christine alone, but the shared C.N. Crawford feel is still easy to spot.

A lot of their best-known books sit inside connected fantasy worlds, especially the Demons of Fire and Night universe, where series can often be read on their own but still reward readers who like spotting links between characters, settings, and bits of lore. That shared-world approach is part of the fun. You can start with demon courts, fae schools, vampire politics, or a deadly marriage competition and still feel the edges of a larger map.

These days, they write while raising their two sons, and the pace of the catalog suggests they have made storytelling into a real working partnership. If you come to C.N. Crawford for magical trials, morally messy love interests, and fantasy worlds that move fast, you will not be short on options.
