Series background & context

Clearwater Castle begins with an inheritance that is far less simple than it sounds. In Secrets of Clearwater Castle, Lowri Morgan is still grieving her husband, Alun, two years after his death. She is trying to hold life together for herself and her young daughter, Wren, when she finds a letter among Alun's papers that reveals he left behind a secret inheritance.

That inheritance is Clearwater Castle.

Lowri travels to see it expecting answers, but the castle is not a fairy-tale prize. It is near derelict, with serious responsibilities attached to it and a history that Alun never explained. The setting is remote and striking, with ancient trees, fields and a millpond, but it also needs time, money and hard decisions if it is going to become a safe home rather than another burden.

Huw, the local stonemason, becomes essential to Lowri's efforts. He is skilled, blunt and not immediately easy to get along with. Their working relationship begins with practical problems, including what can realistically be done to save the old structure. As they spend time together, however, Lowri has to consider whether she can let another person into a life shaped by loss.

Wren is at the center of that decision. Lowri does not want a grand adventure for its own sake. She wants stability and a sense of belonging for her daughter, who has already lost so much. Seeing Wren settle into the open space around Clearwater helps Lowri imagine that the castle could offer a future, even while unanswered questions about Alun's inheritance make that future uncertain.

The book combines a slow-building romance with family secrets and a restoration story. The tension comes less from action than from what has been withheld, why Alun kept the castle hidden, and whether Lowri can trust the opportunities that arrive after grief. The castle itself matters as more than scenery. Its crumbling walls reflect the work of starting again when the life you expected has already fallen apart.

Start with Secrets of Clearwater Castle, which introduces Lowri, Wren, Huw and the mystery behind the inheritance. It is a good choice for readers who enjoy emotional contemporary romance, old buildings with a past and stories where rebuilding a place helps someone rebuild a life.

Clearwater Castle may be broken down, but it still has room for a new beginning.
