Chestnut Creek is Laura Drake's small-town western romance series set in Unforgiven, New Mexico, a town sitting on the abandoned stretch of Route 66 and trying very hard not to disappear. Their story leans into one of the series' favorite questions: is home something you inherit, or something you choose for yourself?

A Cowboy for Keeps widens the emotional lens again. Lorelei West is suddenly left caring for her baby niece after a family tragedy, while rancher Reese St. James learns the child is the last blood tie he has left. The romance grows out of grief, responsibility, and a shared instinct to protect. That is a good snapshot of how this series works. The love stories do not float above real life. They rise straight out of it.

Across all three books, expect second chances, family complications, and characters who have to earn trust instead of stumbling into it. The western setting matters, but it never feels like decoration. Ranch work, town politics, money strain, and the push and pull between staying and leaving are part of the emotional engine. The books stand on their own, but they are richer in order, because each visit makes Unforgiven feel more lived in, and more like a place you would gladly go back to.
