Series background & context

The Chances Duet is a two-book contemporary romance that follows Hannah and Brock through a relationship shaped by missed opportunities, memory, and the question of whether love can survive a life turned upside down. Unlike Mica Rae's couple-by-couple series, these books tell one continuing story, so they are best read in order.

Her Second Chance opens with Hannah at thirty-one, newly devastated after her fiancé ends their relationship. Then she wakes up in her eighteen-year-old body, with the chance to revisit the choices that led her to this point. That includes Brock, her first love, and the life she once imagined for herself. The premise gives the story a time-slip twist, but the real focus is Hannah's emotional reckoning with regret, longing, and the people she has loved.

Hannah is not simply handed a perfect do-over. As she moves through a younger version of her life, she has to decide what she would change, what she would protect, and whether the future she thought she wanted was ever really hers. Brock is central to those choices, but the story also makes room for the pull of another possible life.

The first book ends with major questions still hanging over the couple. His Last Chance picks up directly from that point, shifting the tension from revisiting the past to learning how to live with what has happened. Hannah must find her footing again, while Brock faces the painful possibility that the woman he loves may not remember their life together in the same way.

There is a strong second-chance feeling throughout the duet, but it is not a simple nostalgia story. The books look at how identity changes with age and experience. They also ask whether rebuilding a relationship means trying to recreate the past or making something new from the pieces that remain.

Expect an emotional, relationship-centered read with a cliffhanger between the installments. Hannah and Brock's story has romance at its heart, but it also leans into uncertainty, grief, family pressures, and the work of choosing each other again. Start with Her Second Chance, then go straight to His Last Chance for the resolution.
