Author bio

Carian Cole grew up in New Jersey and still sounds like someone who remembers exactly where she came from. She now lives in the mountains of New Hampshire with her husband and a house full of furry pets, and she often sums up her days in a very relatable way: writing, reading, and vacuuming.

Books came early for her. Her mother loved to read, got her started young, and encouraged the writing habit that followed. Cole has said she began making up stories as soon as she could hold a crayon and put sentences together, and her mom saved many of those first pages. Back then the stories were about puppies and butterflies. The emotional instinct was already there.

She also says her love of angst came from watching Days of Our Lives with her mother growing up.

That small detail helps explain the shape of her fiction. Cole writes contemporary romance with big feelings, unconventional pairings, troubled pasts, and characters who often look rougher from the outside than they really are. Age gaps, forbidden love, grief, healing, and hearts of gold all show up again and again. Readers who click with her work usually like that mix of slow burn, emotional mess, and genuine tenderness.

Her debut novel, Storm, set the tone. It starts with a woman trapped in a blizzard with a stranger who turns out to be a rock star, but the real hook is the emotional closeness that builds under pressure. That book opened the door to the Ashes & Embers world, where titles like Vandal, Lukas, Talon, and Asher follow interconnected characters through fame, private pain, and hard-won relationships.

She likes love stories that take the long way around.

Outside that series, Torn shows how comfortable she is working with taboo tension and complicated family lines. Tied goes darker, pairing trauma with rescue and recovery. No Tomorrow leans into music, first love, and the kind of connection that keeps shaping two people long after they part. Don't Kiss the Bride is one of her softer setups, even with its age gap and marriage-of-convenience premise. The Lovely Return pushes into grief, memory, and a stranger kind of second chance. She does not repeat the exact same story, but she keeps returning to the same question: can love meet people where they actually are, not where they wish they were?

What ties all of this together is her interest in people who have been judged too quickly. Rock stars, construction workers, tattoo artists, recluses, single mothers, and damaged romantics all show up in her books. So do small acts of care, cooking for someone, sitting with them in silence, offering a place to stay, staying when things get hard. Even when the setup is big, the feeling is often intimate and close to home.

These books get messy.

They also keep reaching for hope, which feels true to the writer behind them. Cole still lives in New Hampshire with her husband and many pets, still writes from the same instinct that got her started as a kid, and still seems drawn to the gap between a hard exterior and a soft center. That is the throughline in her work, and it is a big part of why readers keep coming back.
