Series background & context

Ballet is the engine of the Broken Slipper books, but this is not a glossy backstage fairy tale. The trilogy follows Kaia, a young ballerina who is disciplined onstage and desperate off it, and Calum, the cold billionaire patron tied to the New York ballet world. Their relationship starts in secrecy and control, with money, power, class, and ambition all pushing against them.

What makes the series work is the constant tension between performance and survival. Kaia is trying to hold onto her future as a dancer while hiding the parts of her life that could destroy it. Calum looks like the man with all the power, but he is carrying his own damage and uses control as armor. Across The Patron, The Dancer, and The Embrace, the books stay close to the same couple, so the emotional stakes build from book to book rather than resetting.

Expect a dark billionaire romance with ballet studios, private apartments, exclusive clubs, and a lot of emotional push and pull. The tone is intense, possessive, and sometimes bruising, but the heart of the series is still about whether two wounded people can stop treating love like a transaction. If you like one-couple trilogies with cliffhangers, high heat, and a strong backstage setting, this is the right place to start.
